Medical Technology Innovation and Application in Pediatrics International Conference was held in Beijing on 9th January, 2020. This conference was organized by Capital Medical University, Columbia University Medical Center and NewYork–Presbyterian Hospital, hosted by Columbia Global Centers, Capital Medical University Technology Park and BJMeical Valley, and supported by the Health Human Resources Development Center of the Ministry of Health of China. Ai You Foundation participated in this event as the philanthropic partner of the conference.
This conference is to explore further cooperation on global clinical practice, medical research, translational medicine, capacity building and etc.. Communications will be enhanced in clinical and research innovations so as to establish a solid base for future collaboration.
Themed on Innovation and Translational Medicine in Paediatric Techniques, international and Chinese paediatric experts from Capital Medical University, Columbia University, Beijing Children’s Hospital of Capital Medical University, Capital Institute of Pediatrics, Tianjin Children’s Hospital, New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital, the Health Human Resources Development Center of the Ministry of Health of China, Beijing Friendship Hospital of Capital Medical University, Xinhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Beijing Anzhen Hospital of Capital Medical University and National Committee of Cardiovascular Experts discussed respectively on the latest development in their research areas.
During the opening ceremony, Xunming Ji, the Vice President of Capital Medical University addressed the guests with the history and introduction of Capital Medical University, especially the innovations and translational medicine achievements in paediatrics in the past few years. He hoped to further communicate with the guests and their institutes and converge resources. He looked forward to establishing consistent and effective dialogue between Chinese and international medical experts and promoting the win-win development for both Chinese and international health service.
Dr. Jordan Orange, the Chair of Pediatrics at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and Pediatrician-in-Chief of NewYork-Presbyterian/Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital, introduced Columbia University Medical Center, home to the largest medical research enterprise in New York City and State and one of the largest faculty medical practices in the Northeast, as well as NewYork–Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center, the largest academic medical centre in the nation and one of the largest and most comprehensive hospitals in the United States.
The Assistant Secretary-General of Ai You Foundation, Zifei Gao, introduced the history of over an decade of the foundation in children’s medical service and the prospects of the foundation. Ai You will continue to work with children’s hospitals and top-tiered general hospitals in China to systematically solve the problems such as patients who cannot afford treatment, the diseases that cannot be cured and the great pain caused by disease, to support the paediatrics in China. In one of the panel sessions, Zifei Gao discussed with international hospital management executives and paediatricians on talent training with social support.
The conference set up a panel session-- “Clinical Treatment of CHD: Innovations and Translational Medicine” specifically for congenital heart disease, which is one of the common congenital anomalies in China. The William T Speck Professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons in the City of New York and Director of the Division of Neonatology at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of New York-Presbyterian, Dr. Richard A. Polin, Director of Cardiac Surgery of Beijing Children’s Hospital of Capital Medical University, Song Bai, expert from Paediatric Heart Centre of Xinhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Yurong Wu, expert from Neonatology Department of Tianjin Children’s Hospital, Yang Liu shared their experience with the guests through keynote speeches and roundtables.
Medical Technology Innovation and Application in Pediatrics International Conference has built a platform for dialogues between Chinese and international paediatric experts. It is believed that with joint efforts, children’s medical service in China and the capacity building of Chinese medical workers will be greatly enhanced in the future.
